Hi! I’m Sarah, and I love travelling. Though I’m from Massachusetts, I’m living in and working from Bristol, England. I’m starting this blog as a little project, and I hope you’ll join me on this journey by subscribing:
My Travel Experience
I’ve travelled all my life. It started before I can remember – my parents tried to think of places where an infant would be welcome, and they ended up going to Disney World, correctly figuring that staff would know how to handle families; and that any behavior that might otherwise be considered disruptive would blend in with my peers.
I never stopped travelling from that point on.
We visited family, which is spread out across the US – currently Arizona, California, DC, Florida, Michigan, New jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont, and Washington. In particular, we went to New Jersey or Georgia for Christmas, and Michigan once every 2-3 years.
I also grew up doing an obscure sport called synchronized figure skating, and competitions took us to Buffalo, New York; Charleston, South Carolina; Duluth, Georgia; Flint, Michigan; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and San Diego, California, among other places.
I took my first trip abroad when I was about 10. We went to Paris, London, and the Cotswolds in England. That was followed a few years later by a trip to Italy and Austria.
In total, I’ve been to over 25 countries, and at least 30 states. I’ve been on weekend trips, 1-week, 2-week, 3-week and month-long holidays (‘vacations’ to us Americans).
I’m a pretty light packer and packing is one of my favourite parts of the ancitipation of a holiday.
Countries I’ve Visited
The list below excludes airport layovers, even if it was overnight. If it’s on this list, we stopped for at least 2 nights. Where I’ve only been to the capital or one major city, I’ve noted it.

- England (many times, first circa 1998)
- Antigua & Barbuda (Antigua only; I don’t remember how old I was – maybe 11 or 12, but we went for Christmas one year)
- Italy (first circa 2001, spring semester 2010)
- Austria (briefly on my first trip to Italy)
- Ireland (circa 2004)

Where I’d like to go
As you can see from the list of countries, large swaths of the world are conspicuously in their absence from this list, including most of Central America, all of South America, much of Eastern Europe, all of the Middle East, and almost all of Asia. This is not for lack of interest.
Having spent most of my life in the Northeast United States, Europe is a short flight compared to some other areas of the world – flying nonstop from Boston to London is about the same as the flight to San Diego. That, and my parents’ enjoyment of Europe, drove some of my interest and later trips, as I was quite comfortable navigating my way around the region.
Living in England has also made travel within Europe much easier, as Bristol has an airport with a good number of direct destinations, and budget airlines offer good prices.
